Friendly Fires To Play Lollapalooza In Chicago
Friendly Fires Nominated For Mercury Prize!

We are ready to apply for US citizenship papers for Friendly Fires because they clearly love being in the US and we love them!  The band is coming back over for not one but two more tours Stateside before 2009 is over.

Friendly Fires – Ed Macfarlane, Edd  Gibson and Jack Savidge - have just confirmed that they will be a part of the first-ever “Nylon Winter Music Tour” which kicks off in Mid-November. The magazine just sponsored a super-successful summer tour featuring Patrick Wolf, Plastiscines, Living Things and Jaguar Love and they’ve decided the love should be spread into the winter.  We are positive this November jaunt is going to be on par with Summer Tour 09 (though perhaps a bit colder).  The full bill is still being confirmed and some dates are still hush-hush but all currently announce-able dates are listed below!

Prior to the Nylon Winter Music Tour, Friendly Fires will play select US dates in August including a kick-off show at this year’s Lollapalooza Festival in Chicago on August 9 and two dates in NYC.    Check out the routing below! More to be announced soon!

More news!!  On September 1 XL Recordings will release an expanded version of the band’s self-titled debut album on all digital services. On it will be the band's upcoming new single “Kiss Of Life”, remixes by Air France among others, and video footage that will include Friendly Fires live at the Forum and a collection of the band’s videos to date.  The CD / DVD version of this expanded edition album will be in indie shops on September 8.

More news!!  MTV is slated to dedicate Thursday July 23 to premiering the new video for “Kiss Of Life.”

The channel will feature the video all day on MTV.com, along with premieres on the AMTV program on MTV proper, AMTV2 on MTV2, MTVU and MTV Hits. Further, the video is being added to regular rotation on MTV (yes, MTV PROPER) this week. MTV have been super supportive of the band since the release of the album including them and the video for “Skeleton Boy’ in their “Freshman Five’ and their “Discover And Download’ programs.

Even more news!!!  Friendly Fires will be appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on August 25 where they will be performing the “Kiss Of Life” single.  If you missed them on Last Call With Carson Daly this will be your chance to check them out on network television.

Friendly Fires was named NPR's #4 debut album of 2008, and Pitchfork has said of them:“Although their self-titled debut has the immediacy and hard hook that riddle so much of this genre, Friendly Fires show an amplified, ambitious, and inventive attention to detail that helps steer them away from sounding like just another polished party band." The NY Times has said: “[Friendly Fires] love their 1980s fundamentals, from Talking Heads to New Order and Depeche Mode...song after song, they [come] up with more pop treats.”   Under The Radar called the album “gloriously funky.”

The critics and TV bookers aren’t the only fans – sold out shows across the US (and rabid love at Coachella for their set) prove the love extends to the streets - everyone wants to be part of the ass-shaking fun that is a Friendly Fires show.  And while we're hoping they move here its a tough sell because the Friendly Fires craze is world-wide. Their album has just gone gold in the UK and the scene at the recent Glastonbury Festival was akin to a massive - and we mean massive - sing-along dance party.   Further, Friendly Fires were just nominated for 2009's Mercury Music Prize! The prestigious British award is handed out each year to one artist only and is based solely on artistic merit. Friendly Fires made the shortlist with 11 others (among them label-mates The Horrors). Previous winners have included XL Recording artists Dizzee Rascal and MIA. This year's winner will be announced in London September 8.

Friendly Fires debut album is out now in stores and via online retailers.  Tour dates for August and November’s Nylon Winter Music Tour are below with lots more still being confirmed so watch this space!
