Elegies To Lessons Learnt by iLiKETRAiNS
Released: Oct 23 2007
iLiKETRAiNS is a 5-piece from Leeds consisting of Dave Martin (guitar and vocals), Guy Bannister (guitar, rhodes and synths), Alistair Bowls (bass), Ashley Dean (cornet and visuals), and Simon Fogal (drums).
Their sound is an amalgam of carefully structured, majestic melodies and huge instrumental patterns, set to a narrative of past historical figures. Though history may seem an unlikely 'rock' topic, iLiKETRAiNS succeed thoroughly in bringing past into present via incredible, rousing tales of courage and failure set against beautiful, often monstrous musical pieces.
“Brilliant, unique, wry: iLiKETRAiNS are at odds with pop’s present trends, but then weren’t all the best bands out of time?”
-NME
“Rock’s unlikeliest cult group on the brink of chart success.”
-The Times
“With gigantic waves of grey rock sound, as fashioned by Americans Low with a Music Hall Goth feel, this Leeds outfit are a complete one-off. A striking debut.”
-The Mirror
“Take Joy Division, Editors and Interpol, smash them into the machine that the children went through in Pink Floyd's "The Wall," turn the BPM's down 50%, insert lyrics about trains and sculpt the ground remains of the three previously minced bands into guys that look like and sing about train conductors, and.....just kidding....follow these instructions and you'd have something that looks and sounds a lot like iLiKETRAiNS.”
-NY2LON
“Intelligent, witty songs are matched by hauntingly powerful riffs. These make you think of The Smiths and Interpol joining forces with Sigur Ros... This mini album boasts some remarkable tracks.”
-The Sun
“iLiKETRAiNS stand firmly and gloriously out of place in a country full of haircuts. More Heart, soul and dynamics than the whole of the indie top 40 put together.”
-Drowned In Sound
“The sound of Joy Division growing up and discovering hope. Special.”
-The Fly
