Dark Was The Night by Dark Was The Night
Released: Feb 17 2009
Dark Was The Night will be released on February 17th, 2009. Aaron and Bryce Dessner of The National produced the album, and John Carlin, the founder of the Red Hot Organization was the executive producer. A total of 32 exclusive tracks have been recorded for the compilation. It will be available as a double cd/triple vinyl/download and will benefit the Red Hot Organization - an international charity dedicated to raising funds and awareness for HIV and AIDS. Red Hot was founded on the premise that even without a cure, AIDS remains a preventable disease – and music is a great vehicle to raise money and awareness for it. This is the 20th year of Red Hot, and this is the 20th release!

Customer Reviews
A vinyl to own! -

Check out the website for this project. It's for a good cause. The collection of artists is amazing on this album. I found out about it while researching Iron and Wine. They're selling it for dirt cheap, so don't hesitate! I purchased the LPs and plan on buying the MP3s as well. The LP is definitely worth buying, even if you're not into record collecting.

Excitment that can't be contained -

I've been following the release of the tracks for this compilation, and I have to say I'm incredibly impressed. Fantastic music for a great cause, what more can you ask for? I just pre-ordered my copy and can't wait for it to come!

A Great Lineup and A Good Cause -

A compilation CD that sends your money to a good cause, but that is also worth the investment anyways. I would have paid money for this CD even if it was just being sold as a Soundtrack.
For me the standout tracks come from Sufjan Stevens, Yeasayer, and Feist, but there is something for almost every indie lover on these two discs. Its only March, but this CD could end up being one of the top ten best of 2009. A true music lover would be doing their ears a disservice by ignoring these jam packed albums.

so good -

This lineup is insanely awesome. Every song is enjoyable... I've loving this!

THE ONLY COMPILATION YOU'LL EVER NEED -

Such a great album, such a great purpose, each day you'll fall in love with another song, never diminishing the ones before that one. Completely recommended, buy immediately!

Dark Was The Night -

This is an amazing collection of songs from some of today's best artists, and all for a much-needed cause.

Excellent Mix -

Bringing together what may be the largest collection of indie/folk/alternative artists and having them collaborate to create an album like this is the kind of thing that doesn't happen very often. When it does, it can be hit or miss. You might love a few songs here or there, but usually not the whole album as one piece. Dark Was The Night has definitely accomplished that. From beginning to end, you might not like every song. But they work together in a way that makes this less like a random compilation and more like a cohesive album as if it was done by one artist. A must listen for the early 2009. To top it off, the proceeds go to support a good cause.

One of the best so far in '09 -

A great mix of artists on here. The first disc is a little stronger for me as it contains most of my favourites (tracks by the National, Sufjan Stevens, Feist & Grizzly Bear, Feist & Ben Gibbard) but the set as a whole is a very enjoyable, easy listen. Very few of the tracks feel like second rate tracks by the artist, so this is a good way to sample a nice mix of current indie/alt pop/folk.

AMAZING... and that's not a word I use lightly. -

This is quite honestly one of the best albums I have heard in a long time...
Hens why I have to have it on vinyl.
