SBTRKT comes to the US, SXSW + is releasing a single! 11 Mar 2011

Young Turks is excited to announce a stateside visit, and a single from SBTRKT, a South London based producer. SBTRKT (pronounced “subtract”) has recently left his imprint on UK music by seamlessly fusing Detroit Techno, Berlin Electro and classic 2-Step into the thriving London Dubstep scene – although this masked man fits comfortably in any category he wishes to occupy.

Whilst massively prolific, a minimalist ethos runs through the work and style of SBTRKT, not just in the name but in the precision of the sonics and arrangements. He has done remixes for M.I.A., Modeselektor & Basement Jaxx, and has previously released 2 EPs via Young Turks (Soundboy Shift & Step In Shadows).

The single “Living Like I Do” will be released digitally on March 22nd, with 12” vinyl to follow in April. Hear it here:
http://soundcloud.com/youngturks/sbtrkt-living-like-i-do

He will be appearing at several SXSW events in addition to appearances in San Francisco, Arizona, New York and Coachella.

BRITISH SEA POWER NEW NSFW VIDEO and 3/21 LETTERMAN Performance announced! 11 Mar 2011

NSFW VIDEO FOR "WHO'S IN CONTROL?" PREMIERES TODAY!
BAND TO PERFORM ON LATE SHOW WITH DAVID LETTERMAN ON MARCH 21ST!
U.S. TOUR ALSO BEGINS MARCH 21ST!

A lot of very exciting things are going on as British Sea Power gear up for their first U.S. tour dates since 2008! These upcoming shows are in support of their latest album, Valhalla Dancehall, which came out via Rough Trade in January of this year.

Firstly, today marks the worldwide premiere of the music video for album lead-off track, "Who's In Control?" which is NSFW, albeit tastefully (ie there is some nudity involved).

The video for "Who's In Control?" was conceived as a raucous juxtaposition of sex and protest, party and revolt. The video's directors, Bajir Cannon and Bridget Palardy, have delivered a video of real humanity that references adolescent political struggle typified by the recent UK student protests, while embracing the idea that even in the midst of tumult, perhaps especially then, there is a need for release.

Cannon and Palardy have seamlessly integrated real protest footage (culled with permission from a variety of internet sources shot by people from all over the world - Todd Kappelt, Adam Hinton, Miguel Barbosa, Matthew Bowron, and Jonathan James Harrison) with a fictional narrative and small cast to create a compelling expression of disorder and abandon.

You can view the video on the band's website: http://www.britishseapower.co.uk/ or through this direct link http://vimeo.com/20887488
An MP3 download for "Who's In Control?" is available here:http://promo.roughtraderecords.com/britishseapower/whosincontrol.mp3

Secondly, we are pleased to confirm that on March 21st (the first date of their upcoming tour), British Sea Power are set to perform "Who's In Control?" on Late Show With David Letterman!

There's more!

SuperGlued is presenting an interactive contest where fans who attend the upcoming dates can compete via social networking sites to win prizes!  More info on that can be found here http://superglued.com/britishseapower

Also, Indie Rock Reviews recently premiered a documentary on the band called "In Scottish Waters" which you can find here:http://www.indierockreviews.com/2011/03/british-sea-power-in-scottish-waters-video-documentary/

BSP are busy bees!  They recently found time to participate in a performance at Camden's legendary Roundhouse as part of Blackbox, a series of experimental live performance streams.  A video of the band's performance of "Once More Now" is archived here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XEfkvPiETPc

Praise for Valhalla Dancehall, out now on Rough Trade

"In a world of weekend eccentrics, British Sea Power are the real f**king deal." NME(Album of the week)

"...'Valhalla' does further the once-evasive band’s increasingly egalitarian ambitions, with an emphasis on evangelical swells, big guitar hooks, and the BSP’s most inviting vocal melodies yet." The Onion

"Like their forebears The Kinks, British Sea Power remain resolutely iconoclastic, supremely melodic, quintessentially British, and utterly unique." Paste

"They confuse, enrapture, divide and inspire in equal parts, and Lord knows we need a band like this now more than ever." "At the very least, Valhalla Dancefloor confirms British Sea Power's status as cast iron national treasures." The Quietus

RATATAT to play Festival dates and TOUR this June! 08 Mar 2011

We're excited to announce that Ratatat has confirmed notable festival appearances, along with June U.S. tour dates in support of LP4, their latest album which is out now via XL Recordings!

First, the duo (comprised of Evan Mast and Mike Stroud) will hit Coachella in mid-April, and in late May they will head to Quincy, WA to perform at this year's Sasquatch Festival.  A run of Northwestern and Midwestern dates will immediately follow, leading up to an appearance at this year's Bonnaroo Festival in Tennessee!

These will be Ratatat's first U.S. dates in over 6 months, and the band hasn't hit the majority of these places since the release of LP4, so don't miss this opportunity to see them!

Ratatat has upped the ante with their live show through years of touring the world tirelessly.  They now employ the use of holograms among other visual components, and the result is an experience that is truly unforgettable!  Read this live review from The Stranger that ran after their last stop in Seattle:

Watch the music video for album track "Drugs" here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KhrteSZXFzM

“On LP4 it’s clear that big licks can still be cool — as long as they’re served over scratchy samples, chest-rattling beats, and a United Nations of instruments, from Iranian drums to Japanese strings….(LP4) is an album that demands to be pumped through massive speakers.”
- Wired Magazine

“the addition of a string section and hand-drums to the group's arsenal of clashing sounds gives the new release a more exotic vibe”
- Billboard

Strange Boys on tour this Spring 07 Mar 2011

Rough Trade's Strange Boys are touring the West Coast this March/April, kicking off the tour with a show 3/19 at SxSW!

ALELA DIANE - mp3 announcement + ny show 04 Mar 2011

Premiering today! the first track Alela Diane's forthcoming album Alela Diane & Wild Divine.
"To Begin" http://promo.roughtraderecords.com/aleladiane/tobegin.mp3

Alela Diane & Wild Divine will released on April 5th by Rough Trade, and it is the follow-up to her critically acclaimed 2009 album To Be Still, and her 2006 debut The Pirate's Gospel.

She will also be previewing the album in it's entirety at a performance this Monday March 7th in New York at Housing Works for an early show (doors at 7pm). She won't be back in NYC until the summer, so this will be the only opportunity to see her for a while.

ALELA DIANE & WILD DIVINE AT HOUSING WORKS
"Live From Home" concert series
126 Crosby Street
Monday March 7th, 7PM doors, 7:30PM on stage

Alela Diane & Wild Divine was penned on the road whilst touring in 2009. Wild Divine refers to Alela's band - husband Tom Bevitori, her father and guitarist Tom Menig, bassist Jonas Haskins and drummer Jason Merculief.  A self-taught musician, Alela hails from northern California and currently resides in Portland, Oregon.

When producer/engineer Scott Litt (Nirvana, REM, The Replacements) caught wind of the circling demos he ceased his seven-year dormancy and invited the group to his home studio in Venice, CA to make the album.

"a skilled acoustic purveyor of dark, spare Americana awash in chilly imagery and evocative lyricism" -AUSTIN AMERICAN STATESMAN
"a soul whose musical motives are as crystal clear and refreshingly distinctive as her pretty voice" -BUST
"The record's best moment comes somewhere in the center of the cautiously joyful "The Alder Trees".   As Diane, easy-swaying sings 'girls clapping,' a ragged clap -- hollow and a touch behind the beat -- emits from the back of the room.  It's the kind of perfect little flaw that makes a record  almost perfect, almost flawless" -PITCHFORK (8.0)

thanks!

TITUS ANDRONICUS kick-off tour TONIGHT w The Pogues! MORE DATES CONFIRMED! 03 Mar 2011

What a year it's been for TITUS ANDRONICUS! In early March 2010, the band's epic second album, The Monitor was released by XL RECORDINGS to much-deserved critical raves. They've toured tirelessly ever since, and their reputation as a must-see live act has continued to grow.  Titus played a blistering set at 2010's Pitchfork Festival last July, and made their network television debut last August on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.  By the end of 2010, The Monitor was showing up on many year-end best-of polls (NPR, NY Times, Pitchfork, Spin, Pazz & Jop, etc).

2011 started with the amicable departure of bassist and founding member, Ian Graetzer, who left to focus on other artistic pursuits. The band has since regrouped, and are now joined by bassist Julian Veronesi.

Titus recently shot a music video which will premiere soon, directed by none other than NJ dweller and radio host extraordinaire, Tom Scharpling!  The Wall Street Journal wrote about the shoot, you can read their coverage here: http://on.wsj.com/fDGq40

TONIGHT, the new line-up is set to kick-off a run of dates supporting none other than THE POGUES!

After that, they'll do a stretch of headlining shows, sandwiching a handful of dates supporting BRIGHT EYES and an appearance at this year's COACHELLA FESTIVAL in between!

They'll end things nicely with two homecoming shows - one at Maxwell's in Hoboken, which is already sold out, and one at Music Hall Of Williamsburg in Brooklyn!

NOT SO FAST
- the hardest working band out there has JUST confirmed 22 MORE dates!  This time, they will support OKKERVIL RIVER.  This stretch will keep them busy from late May through the end of June!

So, to recap:

1) Titus Andronicus is the hardest working band out there and will be hard to miss this Spring and Summer (57 shows)!
2) Stay tuned for a new music video (along with more notable radio and video performances, TBA)!
3) People going to see The Pogues, Bright Eyes or Okkervil River should be sure to get there early and catch Titus!
