News from KAREN ELSON 04 Apr 2011

Karen Elson is excited to announce the extra special release of a brand new single for Record Store Day. The A-side of the single is a sly cover of Lou Reed’s “Vicious” as originally released on his Transformer album in 1972. While dating back to his time in the Velvet Underground and germinating from an idea suggested by Andy Warhol, Elson’s vibrant interpretation breathes new life into this standard. The flip-side features the Elson-penned “In Trouble With the Lord” a dark, haunting lament recorded during her “The Ghost Who Walks” album sessions but not seeing its physical vinyl release until now.
In keeping with Third Man Records’ worldwide reputation as a leader in vinyl packaging innovations, the latest release from Karen Elson once again steps up the game. The 7” single is pressed on clear vinyl. But it’s no ordinary clear vinyl. Before being inserted into the mechanized press peach colored rose petals were hand-inserted into the raw vinyl. The result, pictured here, is a truly unique approach to the long-treasured art of pressing flower petals in between the pages of books. Limited to 1000 copies and available worldwide on April 16th (Record Store Day) this piece is sure to be not only tough to find, but desired by many as an objet d’art. For those unable to snag one of these limited versions, fear not, as a regular black vinyl, picture sleeve version of the single will be available shortly.
As an added bonus, Karen is also premiering a never released video of "The Birds They Circle" from her live video session at Third Man Records back in 2010. Directed by Jack White, the video features Karen and her full band, comprised of Carl Broemmel (My Morning Jacket), Olivia Jean (The Black Belles), Rachelle Garniez, Marc Fellis (The Go), and Jackson Smith. The track is from Karen's debut 2010 LP, "The Ghost Who Walks".

To add to the excitement, Karen is also set to perform at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival from June 9-12 in Manchester, TN! For tickets and more information on the Festival, visit www.bonnaroo.com. Karen's exact performance date will be announced in the very near future, so stay tuned!

STORNOWAY confirm MORE North American Tour Dates! 28 Mar 2011

Oxford, England's Stornoway came over to our side of the pond in late 2010 for their first North American tour, following the release of their debut full-length Beachcomber's Windowsill. The album came out last summer and debuted at #14 on the UK charts, and the tour that followed saw the group win over U.S. audiences:
"Stornoway's set was built on beautiful harmonies centered on lead singer Brian Briggs' sharp, clear voice."
"Stornoway really shined during their encore. Eschewing microphones and all electronic props, the folk band brought out a cello, a violin, an acoustic guitar and let their voices soar unimpeded into the night air. It was gorgeous." LA Weekly
"As guests in our strange land, Stornoway are quickly earning loving favor. As one particularly impressed attendee exuberantly proclaimed, "I freakin' love this British s**t!" From endlessly looped violins and empty (?) kegs banged on for percussive effect to a singing saw and a banjo emblazoned with a detailed mollusk illustration, there really isn't anything not to love." Philadelphia City Paper
"What will probably be my last concert of 2010 ended up being a dark horse candidate for the best of year."
"Playing to a sold out crowd at the famous Crocodile Cafe, Stornoway began their set with an Andrew Bird-like violin loop extravaganza courtesy of touring violinist Rahul Satija. It was an unexpected albeit awesome start to a wonderful set." Seattle Show Gal
"Stornoway's breathy, heartfelt, and folky bubblegum treads the usual travails of love and loss, as does all good Britpop. But they also wander off the beaten pathway into more green and fertile fields." Portland Mercury
The tour also included a very special intimate performance at Yale's Peabody Museum. Read this live review from Mojo: http://www.beggarsgroupusa.com/artist_files/Stornoway_Mojo_yale_rev.jpg
