My Maudlin Career came out in April of 2009 and has been praised by critics worldwide!  The single "French Navy" has been declared one of the catchiest songs around and was included in NPR's "Best Music Of 2009 So Far" top 30 reader's poll.  My Maudlin Career was #12 in Paste Magazine's Top 25 Albums of the year, and Stereogum's #29 album of 2009!

More praise for My Maudlin Career

"Camera Obscura has been crafting its own blend of shimmering chamber-pop since first forming in Glasgow in 1996. Now, more than a decade later, the group [is about to} release its richest and most ambitious album to date."
-NPR's Exclusive First Listen

"It's an infectious album that blooms repeatedly throughout, unfolding in muted, endearing aural hues; simultaneously sad and celebratory, and always charming."
-Paste 89%

"The result is a flawless blend of sunny pop, Motown, blues and jazz with the cleanest production in Camera Obscura's catalog."
-Billboard

"On their fourth album, this Scottish indie-pop band's fondness for woeful heartache and Phil Spector-sque production reaches a poignant peak."
-Spin

"My Maudlin Career" stands as one of the finest among Camera Obscura’s four studio records.  It's a sadly poetic collection that you don't necessarily have to be heartbroken to enjoy!  It is an album dripping with tragic beauty."

Jeffrey Lewis confirmed to participate in Benefit for Tuli Kupferberg on 1/22 at St Ann's Warehouse 08 Jan 2010

Fri Jan 22 - Brooklyn, St. Ann's Warehouse - Benefit for Tuli Kupferberg - Tuli Kupferberg, the influential songwriter who co-founded the Fugs, suffered two strokes, in April and September 2009, which left him blind, confined to his apartment and in need of 24-hour care. new SERENA-MANEESH album out in March!!! 20 Dec 2009

March 23rd will see Serena-Maneesh release their new album, S-M 2: Abyss In B Minor, on 4AD.

S-M 2: Abyss In B Minor is the second album following the release of their self-titled LP in 2006 which received much praise upon it’s release, establishing the Norwegian band as an act that could merge the lilting, ethereal melodies with crushingly loud, shimmering distortion. This new album is also their first release for 4AD, with them having recently been signed to the label.

They started recording for the new album in 2008 when they went back underground to record in to a cave on the outskirts of Oslo; “Studio environments often get on my nerves,” Emile Nikolaisen explains, “and I love the underworld, you can silently head down there and do as you please, leave the world behind. So we found this huge cave with stone walls, it looked like a refugee hideout from World War II, with a huge, undiscovered treasure of sound.”

Once recorded, they then worked on it further with Nick Terry (who has worked with Klaxons and Primal Scream), and Can associate René Tinner, who set about mixing the results – spending an incredible eight days on each song. It was even mastered at Air Studios by Ray Staff, who did the same for, among many others, Led Zeppelin’s Physical Graffiti, but this is no distended double-album, the end result is a concise eight tracks spread over just 38 minutes and 45 seconds. There is more on the making of the record here.

YOU CAN DOWNLOAD AN EDIT OF THE ALBUM OPENER, 'AYISHA ABYSS' HERE

"They get it, their demeanor electric and alternating, built off antagonistic relationships. The band, like the instrument, are apt to prove noise and un-noise are of one cut." Pitchfork (8.6 - Best New Music)

Efterklang announce 2010 tour dates!!! 16 Dec 2009

EFTERKLANG Announce First Live Shows for 2010

To coincide with the release of third album Magic Chairs (released on 22nd February via 4AD), Denmark quartet Efterklang have announced details of an early Spring tour that will span parts of North America, UK and Europe.

On the eve of the album's official release the band will appear at Oslo's By:Larm festival in February before heading across the Atlantic in March and then back to Europe the following month (one of the handful of UK shows includes headlining London's Shepherds Bush Empire on April 21st). As before, Efterklang will perform with their seven-piece live band including US troubadour Peter Broderick and his equally talented sister Heather Woods Broderick.

In January, before the band kick off their Magic Chairs Tour, 2010 will begin in earnest as Efterklang combine forces with friends Slaraffenland to perform as a 12-strong band under the moniker "Slaraffenklang" for two special Danish shows. The mutant band will perform new versions of tracks from both bands' repertoire on January 23rd and 24th in Aarhus and Copenhagen respectively.
