SBTRKT - coming to NYC and listen now on Hype Machine 20 Jun 2011

SBTRKT is a London-based artist, and his self-titled debut album is out via Young Turks/XL NEXT WEEK!
You can listen to it NOW on Hypemachine.
SBTRKT is also coming to New York for a few very special shows in a couple of weeks. What does a SBTRKT live show look like? Check him out live at Abbey Road. It's impressive to say the least.

JULY 6th BROOKLYN, NY Glasslands
JULY 9th LONG ISLAND CITY, NY PS1 (w/ guest vocalists)
(another area show is TBA)
SBTRKT is an artist that collects collaborators instead of samples. He has assembled a team of artists from South London for this record, a la Massive Attack, Moby, and Soul II Soul. There is a nice scene going on with him and his friends, and the US is taking notice. When we made "Wildfire" public, the bloggers jumped on it, everyone loves it, and people are VERY excited for his record. Drake even remixed it and laid a verse on it. LISTEN
His collaborators on this record include vocalists Sampa, Jessie Ware, Roses Gabor and Little Dragon. “Wildfire” features the voice of Little Dragon's Yukimi Nagano. "I'm a big fan of their musical ethos, so to collaborate with them has been an ambition for a while. It has been really interesting seeing how our two worlds could co-exist.” said SBTRKT.
Through the years, and his development as an artist and producer in his own right, SBTRKT has worked with collaborators both sonic and visual to emphasize his ideas and vision. The performance and visual style has also become an essential part of this setup. Performing in his trademark tribal mask, watching SBTRKT translate his sound live is the opposite of what one would expect from the traditional producer/DJ. "The live show is an expansion of what has been created in the studio and the tools I've used to make them. Just because a song has been created with a laptop, it doesn't mean that is the best way to perform it live, but for me, neither is bringing in a 5 piece band to re-interpret your songs. I see live shows in a very different light to producing in a studio as it's about translating into a medium for performance. The basic setup is myself on an acoustic drum kit with extra electronic triggers, and Sampha on 2 keyboards and vocals.... although it's constantly developing whilst we learn new ways to perform songs and experiment with new ways to route our live audio."
He has done numerous high profile remixes for artists such as M.I.A., Gorillaz & Basement Jaxx, and has previously released 2 EPs but this is his first full-length.

“romantic, synth-heavy”- Pitchfork
“The production, pacing, and romantic magic of “Still Life” and its hook throwback to the golden ’80s era of Tears For Fears, and Thompson Twins, and Psychedlic Furs, and this makes Skying a promising thing.” – Stereogum
“Still Life” is a lovely song, singer Faris Badwan slinking around over a plodding, mid-tempo bass, waiting for action. When you wake up, you will find me, he sings, apparently ever-ready.” – The Fader
“Literally, the hair on my arm stood up when I first heard it. It’s gorgeous and taps right into that spot in my heart saved for a truly great song. That feeling never gets old.” – KCRW
“It’s a stately, romantic throwback to the big ’80s hooks of groups like Simple Minds, Psychedelic Furs, and The Church, and it just might be the best thing The Horrors 2.0 has released so far.” - The Onion

Lead track 'Swear' is now available for download online and can be found here: http://promo.4ad.com/inc/download/swear.mp3

Mark Lanegan's 4 solo dates start soon! 03 Jun 2011

MARK LANEGAN announces rare US live shows.
06/12 Los Angeles, CA Hollywood Forever Cemetery
06/14 San Francisco, CA Great American Music Hall
06/16 Portland, OR Doug Fir Lounge
06/17 Seattle, WA Neptune
It’s been seven years since Mark Lanegan last released a solo album – the critically acclaimed sixth effort Bubblegum, released by Beggars Banquet. Since that time, he’s actually been one of the busiest guys in rock and roll. Mark has released seven albums – just none of them were solo. There have been three Isobel Campbell & Mark Lanegan records, two Gutter Twins albums (his collaboration with Greg Dulli), and two Soulsavers albums. In addition, he has done numerous tours in support of those albums, and many dates with other friends including Queens Of The Stone Age, whom he had a long collaboration with.
Going even further back, Mark is a founding member of Screaming Trees, one of the bands that helped define the Seattle grunge scene. Their 1992 album Sweet Oblivion featured the giant hit “Nearly Lost You”. Mark’s first solo record, The Winding Sheet was released in 1990. It was followed by Whiskey for the Holy Ghost in 1994, 1998's Scraps At Midnight, 1999's I'll Take Care of You, Field Songs in 2001, and Bubblegum in 2004.
Mark recently unveiled a brand new song, titled “Burning Jacob’s Ladder” which is featured in a video game called Rage, out this Fall.
These West Coast shows will feature Mark backed by guitarist Jeff Fielder, and he will be performing songs from his back catalog. Mark is working on a new full-length solo album, which will be released by 4AD, a sister-label to the now retired Beggars Banquet.
ST. VINCENT TO RELEASE NEW ALBUM 'STRANGE MERCY' SEPT 13 VIA 4AD 02 Jun 2011

"THRILLING, UNNERVING" ST. VINCENT TO RELEASE NEW ALBUM 'STRANGE MERCY' SEPT 13 VIA 4AD
St. Vincent, the nom-de-stage of "playful chanteuse [and] fearsome shredder" (NY Times) Annie Clark, has confirmed the 9/13 release of Strange Mercy, her new album for 4AD. The record's 11 new tracks showcase Clark's gift for fusing the cerebral and the visceral, her melodically elegant arrangements packing hefty emotional punches. Clark reunited with producer John Congleton and recorded the album in her hometown of Dallas, TX at Elmwood Studios.
Strange Mercy finds St. Vincent redefining the idea of the guitar hero, utilizing the instrument as a pointillist artist might wield a brush. Countless judiciously placed riffs and instrumental flares, each distinct and unique, cohere into grand tableaus. On "Cruel," she elicits punchy bursts like an R&B horn section. "Cheerleader" froths and boils, with deep and fuzzy guitars bubbling up to the surface, while "Surgeon" twirls about endlessly, Clark's vocals dancing amid a blizzard of notes.
Other musicians on the album include the Grammy Award winning Bobby Sparks on mini Moog, clavinet, Arp and Wurlitzer, Midlake’s MacKenzie Smith on drums, and Daniel Hart on violin. Also contributing were Beck keyboardist and musical director Brian LeBarton, Evan Smith on woodwinds and Phil Palazzolo.
Since the release of her 2009 album 'Actor,' which debuted on the Billboard Top200 and was described by NPR as "a surreal sonic wonderland," Clark has collaborated with some of the biggest names in indie music. She recorded with Bon Iver's Justin Vernon for the 'Twilight' soundtrack, had her song "The Strangers" sampled by Kid Cudi (who she later performed with), and has been working with David Byrne on a forthcoming project. Last month, she blew away a sold-out NYC crowd at Michael Azerrad's "Our Concert Could Be Your Life" with a performance of Big Black's "Kerosene" that the NME described as "a revelation of biblical proportions." Titus Andronicus - SAVE their Music Video! See them Tour w Okkervil River this month! 01 Jun 2011
June Tour supporting Okkervil River starts TONIGHT!
Tom Scharpling holds their music video HOSTAGE - but you can help!!!
It's pretty safe to say that TITUS ANDRONICUS are easily one of the hardest working bands out there! They've toured tirelessly since the release of their epic second album, The Monitor (which came out in March 2010 via XL RECORDINGS).
A couple of weeks ago the band participated in the "Our Concert Could Be Your Life" 10 year anniversary live tribute to Michael Azerrad's seminal book about the American DIY underground music scene of the 1980's. Titus played incredible covers of songs by The Replacements! You can check out streams of that via NPR: http://www.npr.org/2011/05/23/136503845/our-concert-could-be-your-life
In early May, Sound Opinions (http://www.soundopinions.org/) aired their fantastic segment on Titus during their last stop in Chicago, complete with an interview and live performances (they'll next hit Chicago in August as part of this year's Lollapalooza Festival).
Not too long before that, they had the State of New Jersey premiere their Tom Scharpling directed video for "No Future Part Three: Escape From No Future" http://www.beggarsgroupusa.com/news/NJ-outlets-and-people-hosting-the-Titus-Andronicus-premiere/
The direct link to the video is here: http://youtu.be/cM1sQhMGGS8
Just when everything seemed to be looking up, Tom Scharpling had to throw everyone a curveball!
Last week, the band alerted us via their blog (http://titusandronicustheband.blogspot.com/2011/05/tom-scharpling-strikes-again.html) to the fact that Tom holds in his possession a never-before-seen version of "A More Perfect Union" which he will make available for everyone's viewing pleasure if, and only if, the clip for "No Future Part Three: Escape From No Future" gets to 100,000 views by the time the band return to NYC on June 7th amidst their current tour!
If the "No Future" video doesn't reach that goal, then not only will Tom Scharpling fail to unveil the "A More Perfect Union" video, but he will delete, that's right, DELETE, the existing one for "No Future" because Tom Scharpling is JUST THAT CRAZY!
DON'T LET THIS MADMAN DELETE THIS VIDEO ON JUNE 8TH!
Spread the word and view, view, VIEW!
