LATIN TO BE RELEASED MAY 11, 2010 ON YOUNG TURKS / XL RECORDING
New Single, “Latin America” Streaming Today, March 12, on Chatroulette
The new album from Holy Fuck, entitled Latin, will be released on May 11, 2010. This news was made public yesterday, March 11 via the new viral sensation Chatroulette (http://chatroulette.com/)
Where Holy Fuck in the past were a rotating cast of musicians, Latin showcases for the first time their consistent touring line up. Drummer Matt Schulz and bass player Matt McQuaid provide a complex rhythm foundation that at times feels like an invisible hand leading you through a dark hedge maze. Perhaps an excessive feat for most, but this provides the ideal underpinning as Brian Borcherdt and Graham Walsh merge a twin effects/feedback tangle that is equal parts entrancing and inspiring. Latin is the follow up to 2007’s simply titled LP which Filter described as “nine perversely noisy, mind-bogglingly ferocious freakouts” and Spin said of it “Holy Fuck play the sort of id-gripping dance rock that’s best experienced in person. Luckily (LP) retains the raw energy of the live show, even without the visual barrage.” Latin was engineered by Graham Walsh and mixed by Dave Newfeld (Broken Social Scene), D. Sardy (Johnny Cash, NIN), Eli Janney (GvsB, Wilco,), Paul Epworth (Bloc Party, Primal Scream) and Holy Fuck themselves.
Chatroulette was launched in November of last year. The site pairs random users together for anonymous webcam interactions. Yesterday the web-savvy staff of Young Turks signed onto the site and shared the news of the forthcoming release of Latin with large sampling of the 28,000 users that using the service at the time. The response was mixed with some of our new “friends” sticking around to check out the announcement and listen to the new single “Latin Amercia” and others quickly signing off the chat as they were clearly looking for a different sort of intercourse.
Holy Fuck will be playing multiple shows at next week's SXSW convention and will be touring the US following the release of Latin.
Young Turks is continuing to stream “Latin America” on Chatroulette. The label plans on releasing “Latin America” as an MP3 next week. Until then it can only be heard by signing onto Chatroulette and getting lucky.
