Biography

the solo recording project of Brooklyn-based artist Elizabeth Sharp.

The debut Ill Ease album for the Too Pure label, The Exorcist, flows out of the speakers and into your brain, flipping your switches and leaving their mark, an idiosyncratic mix of tripped-up grooves and biting lyricism. Like the movie it’s named after, the album is a dark, haunting, spooky classic. With songs like “You Look Like Hell Tonight” and “You Know You Make Me Wanna Hate You”, the album meets at the intersection of intensely personal and universal, and it ain’t taking no prisoners

For those not familiar with her work to date, Elizabeth started her musical career in the 90s, founding indie mainstays New Radiant Storm King. After a few years pounding out the frenetic drumbeats, Elizabeth picked up the guitar and bass and started composing rock songs in her Brooklyn apartment. The songs that ensued made up the recording guise of Ill Ease. With the release of The Exorcist -- which includes a bonus disc of five tracks from the Greatest Tits EP that was originally released on 10" vinyl and never before available in the US – Ill Ease has succeeded in creating her own unique musical world that compliments the esteemed Too Pure catalogue, which has already dominated the scene this year with classic releases from Electrelane, and mclusky

Elizabeth is also an accomplished photographer whose Polaroids and snapshots have livened up many a gallery wall and made their way into the collection of New York’s Museum of Modern Art. The album artwork contains a selection of original photos that are the scenic under-belly stage-set for 2004’s The Exorcist. Watch out for the video, and stay tuned for Ill Ease tour dates - cause the live band is calling out demons in a town near you soon…. Hold on to your fuzzy dice!

“Ill Ease makes slick rock music that sexily slips and trips on itself — like a drunk friend whose word-slurring only enhances her magnetic appeal” - VENUS

"8 out of a perfect 10! A dark blend of low-fi, fuzzed out guitars, thrashy hip-hop style drums and Sharp's pleasantly off-kilter vocals…Kindred spirits: Royal Trux, My Bloody Valentine, Sonic Youth." – ALTERNATIVE PRESS

“…an unnerving, vaguely claustrophobic signature sound, jumbling together obsessively circular melodies, weirdly arresting dynamics, id-ful lyrical jottings and a haunted, warbling voice similar to the young Moe Tucker's…”– TIME OUT NEW YORK
