Camera Obscura teams with Brooklyn Flea + Yours Truly! 26 May 2010

CAMERA OBSCURA and BROOKLYN FLEA
are excited to announce the "Ice Cream Social" and the debut of live music at the Flea at One Hanson
WHERE: Downstairs in the Vault at Brooklyn Flea, One Hanson Place, Brooklyn, NY
WHEN: Sunday June 6th, 2-4pm
HOW: http://www.brooklynflea.com/
4AD's CAMERA OBSCURA will be setting up shop at Brooklyn Flea on Sunday June 6th, and performing their crafty brand of critically acclaimed pop for a very special abridged performance which also marks the debut of live music at the Flea.
The band will also set up their very own table and will sell their wares, including some items created especially for this event. Since you can't have an "ice cream social" without ice cream, our friends at Blue Marble Ice Cream will be joining in the fun and have created a special flavor in the band's honor - "The Sweetest Cream" in honor of the band's song "The Sweetest Thing" - available with or without honey - in honor of the band's song "Honey In The Sun"!
This is a big couple of weeks for them, and it starts with the release of their newest single out this week, "The Nights Are Cold" b/w "The Sweetest Thing". This is a special release they've put together in honor of Richard Hawley, as he has been one of their favorite artists for years. The A-Side features them covering his "The Nights Are Cold", while the b-side is Richard's own remix of their "The Sweetest Thing" (taken from their latest album My Maudlin Career).
In addition, The band filmed a session with Yours Truly in San Francisco a couple of months ago, and the gorgeous results can be viewed here: http://yourstru.ly/2010/05/25/camera-obscura-forests-sands/
Next Monday, the band kicks off their US visit with a performance at the Sasquatch festival, followed by dates that bring them to New York for the Ice Cream Social, and a show at the Grand Ballroom.
It's going to be a sweet couple of weeks!

ABOUT THE FLEA:
Since The Brooklyn Flea began in 2008, it has been a top weekend shopping destination with an average of 5000-6000 visitors from around the world at each location on each day and has grown into a New York institution. It has garnered local, national, and international press (including a visit from Martha Stewart) celebrating its diversity of vendors, quality of merchandise, the inclusive community aspects of the market's atmosphere, and the economic stimulus the market provides to both vendors/entrepreneurs and local businesses. Last year the Flea also received a prestigious Certificate of Merit from the Municipal Arts Society for “providing an alternative to big-box retail that embodies a private sector spirit while yielding generous public benefits.”
ABOUT CAMERA OBSCURA:
Since 1996, Camera Obscura have been reflecting on their lives, creating music that is equal parts somber pop and upbeat cynicism. Their latest album, My Maudlin Career, was released by 4AD last Spring to widespread critical acclaim. Paste Magazine said "It’s an infectious album that blooms repeatedly throughout, unfolding in muted, endearing aural hues; simultaneously sad and celebratory, and always charming" and Spin stated that "on their fourth album, this Scottish indie-pop band's fondness for woeful heartache and Phil Spector–esque production reaches a poignant peak."
