Get Down With The Cocker At Pitchfork

June 4th, 2009 by Adam F

We didn’t even have this “big hit” in our 37-page, annotated marketing plan for “Further Complications”, but the ‘Fork went and unearthed some cherry Cocker footage from last year’s Pitchfork Festival.

Sure… it’s not “life purpose giving if you’re a young Brit” like  “Common People” from Glastonbury ‘95, but it is the title track from the new record and Cocker and band show the white wayfarer masses how the lads do it back in Sheffield.

Brian Williams Is Celeb Promo Person Of The Week!

May 14th, 2009 by wiscod

brian-williams1

Brian Williams’ new website BriTunes is all the rage right now- we already knew he was a funny guy, but who knew this guy had such great taste in music?

Here’s an exerpt from Rolling Stone’s interview with Williams where he gives a shoutout to not one, but two Beggars bands: Camera Obscura and The Veils!!!!  And that’s the reason why he’s this week’s Celeb Promo Person of the Week – stealing the spikey hat honor from Mr. Reznor.

Any other recent discoveries?
Camera Obscura. Been around a long time. I love the new stuff. It’s a jaunty California sound by way of Europe. I last listened to it on Saturday afternoon as I was getting ready for the Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington. I had it on my iPod. It’s great to have on in the background. Ditto the Veils. I know they’re always on the brink, but I think the song ?The House She Lived In” is a little gem.

A Few Rare Items on Beggars Group Store

May 11th, 2009 by Dean

A little bird dropped a couple of hard-to-find vinyl releases off on our doorstep this week and want to let you know about them.

John Vanderslice and Mountain Goats- Moon Colony Bloodbath
We have a few copies of this tour-only collaboration 12″. Once we’re out they’re gone, so act fast. A few of them are on colored vinyl, color vinyl will be thrown into orders at random (sorry guys it’s the only fair way!)
Order HERE

Arthur Russell- Love Is Overtaking Me
We got a very limited number of this Record Store Day exclusive record in. This is the Rough Trade dbl. LP version of the new Arthur Russell compilation “Love Is Overtaking Me” available on CD from Audika.
This features a more mellow, country-western pop-minded Arthur Russell exploring his more straightforward impulses with his typical sensitivity and beauty.
We have a very limited number of these, so once the buy button disappears, they’re gone. Limit 1 per customer. Order HERE

We also have a few more copies of Mountain Goats’ Black Pear Tree 12″ available and The XX’s Crystalized 7“. Both are limited. Also, remember you get FREE DOMESTIC SHIPPING with orders of $50 or more so throw a few more things in your basket if you’re so inclined.

Elvis Perkins in Dearland…man, these dudes just don’t quit.

May 11th, 2009 by Mike VM

It seems like every time I log in to blog about Matt H’s in-office 360 flips or Dean’s new cumbia CD-R,
I’m interrupted (pleasantly, of course) by yet another Elvis Perkins in Dearland instore.
This time, the guys are hitting Good Records in Dallas, TX before their show that evening at The Pontiac Garage @ The House of Blues.
Do it. Twice.

Sunshine, good vibes and instores

May 7th, 2009 by Mike VM

We lack two of those here in New York in the midst of this rainy, instore-less week.

But to all you soaking up the perpetual sun in SoCal, your weekend just got a whole lot better.
Alela Diane is playing a very special, very intimate instore this Saturday afternoon at Origami, the new vinyl-only rock-of-love-den on Sunset Blvd. in Echo Park.
