When Matt upped that video of Unwound clearing out the room – shot all chest high – I got to reminiscing myself on some memories of yore.
Growing up in a small college town, one of the priviledges you are afforded is pretty regular shows from bands coursing the late 80s and early 90s East Coast hardcore circuit. One of my fondest memories was seeing a bill with Hoover and Lincoln. (Leading up to the show, I think I thought the band was actually called Hoover & Lincoln. Much to my delight, it was two bands. And two great bands at that.)
At the time, I was probably a straight-edge even though back then it didn’t come with all the baggage of tattoos, white belts and carrying around a journal. For me, it amounted to drinking games where we all guzzled gallons of water while playing epic games of Asshole. The bladder pain. Oh, the pain.
Anyhow, it was probably after such a game of staight-edge Asshole that I went up to the Penn State Student Union and caught Hoover [and] Lincoln. I just remember the drummer from Lincoln being completely off the charts. He also had an intense way of playing cymbals and rocked a bell. A bell. And Hoover, well, to this day they remain one of my favorites.
People. Hoover. Lincoln.
