Black Keys To Bands, “Don’t Be Stupid” About Mayo Commercials

August 29th, 2008 by Adam F

We talk a lot about films and licensing on this here blog, but we’ve never seen it so real as the Black Keys waxing on mayo commercials lost. Something tells me they just didn’t understand how weak the US dollar is.

No band sounds better than the FF’s in a studio. And if you listen closely and you can hear "that dude from System of a Down" in the background.

LA Police Had A Busy Night

August 28th, 2008 by Kimberly

A man was arrested in LA for blogging tracks from Guns and Roses long forgotten, overdue now un-anticipated album Chinese Democracy, prosecutors claimed that the band would suffer ’significant’ financial loss for this.  I would argue they had already achieved that by not releasing the thing.  For the full article click here.

File Under “Pretty Messed Up Shit”

August 28th, 2008 by Adam F

While I would never propogate hearsay and un-corroborated stories about off-duty LA police officers drunk on power, there’s something about the alleged beating of F Yeah Fest organizer Sean Carlson by the security staff at The Hollywood Bowl that I can’t help but imagine is true.

As Ice Cube once said, "who got the camera." (or tape)

Reich and Carlson began to leave the premises, says Reich, certain he had captured the use of extreme force on tape. Hoelting, who had stayed behind, then overheard a guard say, "That shit’s going to be on YouTube. We gotta get that tape."

Carlson and Reich turned around to see the men running toward them. “Three giant security guards were barreling after me,” recalls Reich, so he and Carlson started to run along Highland. As the guards gave chase, Reich ran into traffic to try and elude the guards, who were grabbing at his backpack.

Day 1, Friday at Reading and Leeds Festival 2008

August 23rd, 2008 by Kimberly

This years Reading and Leeds Festival kicks off with Vampire Weekend giving a shout out to Rage Against the Machine, Jack Penate packing out the Carling Stage,  Holy Fuck drawing in a huge crowd including members of the Arctic Monkeys and the soon to be broken up Be Your Own Pet.

As with every year of Reading Festival the NME are covering the festival at an almost nauseating extent who reminse;  "A weekend ticket for the 1977 event cost seven pound ninety five.  Pints of milk could be bought onsite for twenty pence.   That year, Reading crowds watched sets by Thin Lizzy and Aerosmith in the driving rain.  NME review harrumphed:  "It’s cold and it’s wet and it’s bloody miserable."  How things have change to the bollock screaming, mud loving dirty rock festival it is today.

Olympic Fever? Yeah I’ve got it. But Long Distance Swimming…WTF?

August 21st, 2008 by Matt H

And adding new sports to the Games? I’m way into that too. Nothing made me happier than the thought of 20-inch BMX bikes cruising the track in Bejing, carving burms and hitting dirt jumps. Plus, one more sport which the good old U.S.A. can completely dominate — who wouldn’t be into that. Go Kyle Bennet!!

But long distance swimming. Really? A two hour swim race that somehow I’ve accidently happened upon both the men’s and women’s race on tv this week. A new event that boasts a competitor who is a double leg aputee (well, that’s kinda cool). An "open-water" sport where swimmers keep themselves going by passing a pontooned feeding station to be handed a food gel pack attached to a long stick, or excuse me, a feeding pole. An activity that officially involves the following rules:

1. Spot and Seek (as the swimmer approaches the feeding pontoon).

2. Reach and Roll (as the swimmer grabs the cup or bottle).

3. Gulp and Go (within 2-3 seconds while on one’s back).

4. Toss and Turn

Additionally, the feeding frenzy doesn’t always go as planned.
