The Teenagers playing American Apparel Brooklyn this Sunday

April 30th, 2008 by Matt H

With the wealth of metaphors that could be used to describe London/Paris based potty-mouthed rockers The Teenagers, we should be able to come up with a better subject line for this post but we thought we’d rather stick to the facts.

Fact #1 – The Teenagers are on tour right now.  They will be in New York in mere days and performing at the following shows.

5/3 – Music Hall of Williamsburg – Brooklyn, NY

5/5 – Bowery Ballroom – New York, NY

Plus afterparties

Fact #2 – The Teenagers are playing an in-store @ AMERICAN APPAREL in Brooklyn this weekend.

Sunday, May 4th
3PM

Location:
American Apparel
314 Flatbush Ave.
Park Slope, Brooklyn
(Q or B Express to 7th Ave.)

Fact #3 – Hasselhoff just can’t get enough of that dirty stuff.

Fact #4 – These only cost 12 bucks, so why not really

Stereolab: First MP3 Off “Chemical Chords”

April 29th, 2008 by Adam F

The first song we’re unleashing off Chemical Chords is called "Three Women".   It’s a lively jam with an almost four-on-the-floor backbeat, slinky guitar work and those big signature organ (er-hummm) chords, so we can almost hear you all rejoicing, "The Groop Is Back!"  For those of you who take your music in our preferred "paid-for format", the digital single is up on iTunes.

MP3:   Three Women

Pre-order Chemical Chords already.

Great Moments In Marketing: Volume 1

April 23rd, 2008 by Adam F

As required by our University of Phoenix’s e-MBA In eMarketing program, Matt and I are doing a semi-regular round up on some of the brilliant marketing things we see every day.  Whether it’s a Vic Firth ad in XLR8R or a flyer on a traffic light post, we will provide in-depth analysis on what gets you to buy (or maybe just upload a video of yourself singing to a Rick Ross ringtone).

So, without further adooo.

As anyone will tell you (and by anyone we mean Steve Knutson, current Rough Trade GM and former Tommy Boy 12" slinger), hip hop is full of brilliant marketing scheming.

So at first glance, I thought this flyer was a legit promo from a self-ingratiating label that specializes in sextape stars and American Idol cast-offs.  And this had potential for paradoxical juggernautery, especially considering Cam’ron once told Anderson Cooper that "snitching was hurting his business (see video)."  So, in fact, the allure is that CAM COULD BE MISSING makes you grab a tab.

But, once you get back to 304 Hudson, unpack your sushi-balls and dial in the itsthereal.com URL, this whole ploy becomes letdown city.  Seems like it’s unrelated to Cam’ron or Koch and is a "hip hop comedy" scetch troop full of pretty predictable vids about the biz of hip hop.

Why wouldn’t you just extend the joke?  I mean you got me with "MISSING"??!?!  Let me land on a video or something that takes the gag further.  I mean, it’s Cam’ron and he does shit in his Cam’Jams that almost begs you to make fun of him…

All in all, we give this scheme middling 2 out of 5 on the PLUG-worthy meter.
